Abstract
Objectives: Determine whether the association of Chitosan 0.5% with Chlorhexidine 0.2 % (Bexident Post®) has advantages over its association with Chlorhexidine 0.12% (Bexident Gengivas®) in tissue healing after tooth extraction. Methods: In this pilot study, 20 patients were subject to tooth extractions with subsequent antiseptics application. They were divided into two groups (A- Bexident Gengivas® and B- Bexident Post®). Two observers applied the product and registered observations (7/15 days). The following healing-related parameters were observed: pain, swelling, erythema, pigmentation and lesion of the oral mucosa, presence of plaque, bleeding, suppuration, and necrotic areas. For the statistical analysis, the nonparametric Mann- -Whitney U test and the SPSS software (IBM Statistics v.23, SPSS Inc, Chicago, IL) were used. Results: At 7 and 15 days, most patients in group A reported no pain or no signs of swelling, and the mucosa had a normal appearance. The same was observed in patients in group B at 7 and 15 days. In no case was suppuration or necrosis observed. Conclusions: There are no clinical differences in the post-extraction healing after the application of Chitosan 0.5% in association with Chlorhexidine 0.2% (Bexident Post®) or Chlorhexidine 0.12% (Bexident Gengivas®).
