Abstract

We show that both Aptenia cordifolia (L.f.) Schwantes (Aizoaceae / Mesembryan- themaceae) and at least one cultivar derived from the hybrid between it and A. haeckeliana (A.Berger) Bittrich ex Gerbaulet have become naturalised in continental Portugal. The cultivar is widely known as A. 'Red Apple' and much more widely cultivated and distributed than the species. The history of the recording of Aptenia cordifolia in Portugal is provided. Aptenia 'Red Apple' is here for the first time recorded for Portugal.
