Resumo

Through an exploration of disparities in the Center of Pressure relative to different foot postures, we can gain insights into the impact of specific foot positions, like flat-footedness or a neutral foot stance, on the control of posture. This understanding aids in unraveling the biomechanical processes that underscore the connections between foot posture and body alignment. Thus, this study investigates variations in the Center of Pressure between individuals with flat and neutral foot postures using the technique of Correlation Dimension analysis. The participant pool consisted of 31 individuals with an average age of 23.26 years ± 4.43. Exclusion criteria encompassed recent ankle sprains, prior ankle injuries or therapy, ankle-related bone fractures, and surgeries or injuries involving the spine, hip, knee, or ankle. Prior to posture assessment, participants underwent screening utilizing the Navicular Drop Test and the Resting Calcaneal Stance Position test, which categorized them into distinct groups. Among these, 15 were assigned to the experimental group, displaying bilateral flatfoot conditions, while the remaining 16 constituted the control group, characterized by bilateral neutral foot postures. All participants underwent analysis of bipedal weight-bearing stances on a force platform, both with eyes open and closed. Subsequently, the Correlation Dimension was computed. The outcomes indicated no statistically significant distinctions (p > 0.05), either in the antero-posterior or mediolateral dimensions, and this remained consistent irrespective of eye condition. These findings imply that postural stability is upheld in both groups through the holistic integration of the kinetic and kinematic chains, rather than relying solely on the foot or ankle.
