Resumo

Abstract. A lymphocystis infection is described from aquarium‐held snakeskin gourami, Trichogaster pectoralis (Regan). The cytoplasm of the hypertrophic cells revealed virus particles of extended hexagonal profiles with thin two‐layered capsids. Subsequent examination of the fish 4 months later revealed hypertrophic cells showing varying degrees of collapse and degradation. The virus particles loading such cells were of regular hexagonal profiles with thick three‐layered capsids.
