Resumo

Introduction Culture influences behavior and decision-making in healthcare, creating challenges for the delivery of culturally sensitive nursing care, especially in perioperative settings. Multiculturalism, driven by globalization and migration, requires nurses to have adequate cultural competencies to provide equitable care. The aim of this study was to map the literature on the factors influencing the delivery of culturally competent care in the perioperative context. Methodology This study followed the Scoping Review methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Articles published in the last seven years were analyzed, encompassing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed studies. Results The review included 10 articles, revealing the following themes: barriers to delivering culturally competent care, strategies for promoting these competencies, and the impact of cultural competencies on care quality. Identified barriers included inadequate communication and lack of specific training. Strategies included adapting practices and cultural awareness. The impact of cultural competencies was evident in the improvement of care quality and patient satisfaction. Conclusion Cultural competencies are essential for providing effective and culturally sensitive nursing care, particularly in perioperative settings. Integrating these competencies can overcome barriers, improve communication and care quality, and promote patient safety and well-being. Ongoing nursing education should focus on developing these skills to address the challenges of a multicultural environment.
